A sig or signature is a tagline placed automatically below each post, for those members who are allowed to have one and who have made use of the facility. A sig may contain a witty quotation, some personal detail of the user’s, a link to their website, or an image.
A Profile Pic is a picture that is placed in the user’s profile area. It may be a photo of the user, but more often is a graphic of some kind.
Captcha – Completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart
A test to determine whether a post is being made by a human or a bot. It normally has a question or questions that must be answered correctly such as the identification of obscured text in graphic form, or random questions that spambots are not usually currently programmed to answer correctly (eg “What 3-letter animal goes woof?”). A captcha test originally meant an obscured-text question, but is now widely used to mean any such test.
The Edit option allows the author of a discussion to make changes to his/her discussion after it has been posted.
To Close a discussion will remove the ability to comment. You can reopen a closed discussion at any point.
An announcement is a discussion that is fixed at the top of the all discussions list. Announcements can only be posted by admins. To announce a post or a thread is to fix it at the top of the list so that it never recedes down the page. Admins can unannounce any announcement.
The Unannounce option is used to change an Announcement discussion type into a regular discussion type. This will move the discussion from the top of the forum back into the list of all discussions below.
When you sink a discussion it won’t be brought to the top of the discussion list when new comments are added. You use this feature when you want a discussion to “go away” in a more subtle way than just closing it. We’ve found the feature to be extremely useful in the past.
Activity is a public stream that displays all recent member activity such as; who has joined, who has changed their picture, status updates, etc.
