Problem with Category Drop-Down on New Discussion

Users aren't able to choose a category when adding a new discussion on our forum:

The default choice (which is whatever item I make first in line) is the only one that is able to be chosen.

Am I missing a setting?

Never mind... answered my own question! Each category has to be a child of a main category, then it can be chosen.

OK, glad you got it sorted out!

If you only want 1 level of categories, uncheck "Display root categories as headlines" and then you'll be able to select top-level categories.
