January Mass Banning of Hotmail Users?

Hello!

One of my fellow admins was checking our Spartacus forum today and we noticed there seemed to be a mass banning of posters with Hotmail addresses that day. None of them ares showing in the banned queue of folks we have knowingly banned; rather, these are showing on the user list.

Any explanation? It's only Hotmail addresses; new accounts with such addresses seem to be okay.

Thanks!

  • Howdy @CasinoMaster, this looks like one of your moderators added a Banning rule of '*@hotmail.com' which indeed mass-banned anyone with a hotmail address. It was clearly later removed, but that does not un-ban anyone already banned that way. A quick survey shows that 2,294 users were banned at that time by that rule. Would you like those bans reversed?
  • Hi, Lincoln:

Wow--I'm not sure how that occurred! Yes, please un-ban everyone. Was there an issue with banning a specific ISP?

Thanks for the response--I didn't realize it was up. Apologies for not getting to you earlier. :)

I'm not sure why there is a discrepancy, but I'm now seeing only 1,268 users with a Hotmail address. I've unbanned all of them. If you previously purposefully banned people that happened to have a Hotmail address (aside from this accidental banning), they're unbanned now too unfortunately. I don't have a way of separating them out since it doesn't log when each ban occurred.
  • Hi, @Lincoln:

Thanks! I'll check and see if anyone intentionally banned needs to be re-banned.
