Problem with Safari

HortonHorton Member
edited July 2012 in Questions
Users can not log in with Safari. I just upgraded to Joomla 2.5 so I am worried that is part of it. Ideas?

Silly Safari is 35% of my traffic so this is a big deal.

  • I'm not having any trouble logging in with Safari. Can you give me more information about what's going on and who's reporting it? Is there an error message?

With Safari after I enter user name and password I am still not logged in. http://ballofspray.com/forum

I have an inbox full of complaints from users saying roughly the same thing. Same with iPad users.
  • What user role do they have? Member?

I can sign in as a normal member (my 'Lincoln' account) on both Safari desktop (5.1.7) and Safari mobile on my iPhone 4 (iOS 5).

Reports are mixed but the problem seems to be across iPad, iPhone and Mac based Safari

I did some testing and believe the issue is not template related. I guess this is good news? One thing it could not be... and the one thing that I have any control of.
  • Hi @Horton, we're still looking into this.
  • I've sent you a PM with the sample member account I'm using to login. Could you try it and see if your problem persists?

What version of Safari are you using, and is it on a Mac?

I am on PC with the latest Safari. I still can not get in. Should I ask my iPad and Mac users if it is different?
  • I've confirmed this issue in Safari 5.1.4 for Windows. I cannot duplicate the issue in Safari 6.0 for Mac or the iPhone. If you have users with issues on another platform besides Safari 5.1.4 for Windows I need detailed bug reports confirming their browser version, their username, and exactly what happens when they try to log in.

I'm discussing possible solutions with the team.

You realize you are asking me to ask my readers for good feedback? Funny but I will ask.

    Notes from readers
    yesterday
iPhone and iPad work great and the site upgrade look really good but I'm still having trouble with my MacAir using Safari.

Specifically, the sign in does not log me in when using the same ID and password.

I'm using version 6.0 (8536.25) also using OsX 10.8 Mountain Lion.

    Brief description of the problem:

Prior to the update when I was viewing the forum I would look down the list and: use right click and open in other tab to view a multiple topics.

I would wind up with say six tabs on the topics I wanted to look at.

Now when the new tab opens I cannot view entire post, and often it does not have the enter new comment box at the bottom of page.

This does not make any sense. This guy is using IE 9. Where is the drop down for polls?

  • I assume this screen shots where taken at the same time. Note the icons missing for the top image.
  • Have the users log out, clear their cookies and browser cache, and try again.

There was a permissions glitch with Polls on your site. It's now fixed.

    Sent from my pc
Still cant sign in to BOS from my iPad
Safari is latest version that comes with iOS 5.1.1

I also have a user with Windows XP-SP3 who can not log in with IE or Chrome. - My guess is his work blocks something but is still a bummer. He says he had access until about 5 weeks ago. Could be S.O.L.
  • @Horton Have you asked the iPad user to clear their cookies?

    Yes i did.

At this point must users have stopped complaining so i am sort of over it.

Traffic is almost all back to where it was. If i get some detailed feed back i will forward it...
  • OK, sounds good.
