Cannot get to my forum!

I had commented earlier saying I had this problem and it was at first just an IT glitch on our side. Today I am still having this issue. I can hit the site on any computer in my office but when I try to sign into the forum, it says "Oops Something has gone wrong" and I cannot get it to come back up. Is there some reason for this?

Thanks
Cara

  • @CSHelper The DNS continues to look correct from our side. If you have an IT support team, have them check your DNS configuration. A 'dig' of your forum address should return as follows:
    $ dig plasmatherm.vanillaforums.com

    ; <<>> DiG 9.8.1-P1 <<>> plasmatherm.vanillaforums.com
    ;; global options: +cmd

  • I had them do that all of Friday and it worked. I can hit the site but the problem comes when I try to sign in and then it gives me an error message and then it continues to give me an error. If you think it is on our side, then I can ask them again.

    Thanks,

    Cara
  • @CSHelper I just logged into your forum using our system account and did not encounter an error. http://i.imgur.com/QF9vL.png

Are you able to provide a screenshot of the error message you're seeing?
  • I do not have a way to host a picture. It just says Something has gone wrong.
"We've run into a problem and are unable to handle this request right now.
Please check back in a little while." and then a weird smiley face with X's as eyes and a scribble line for a mouth
  • Could you check now and see if you're still having trouble?
  • Yup same thing. I also cannot get any of the computer I have tried to login in from to hit the hit the forum again.
  • Hi Cara, I created a normal user account on your site and logged in with that. It also worked fine.

Try clearing your cookies and browser cache.

Have you tried using the site from outside the office?

Is this the login page you're using? http://plasmatherm.vanillaforums.com/entry/signin

If that doesn't work, please let me know what browser and operation system (Mac or Windows version) you're using.
  • Hello Ok I have taken the past two days to test absolutely everything I could on our end. I used Chrom, FrieFox, and Safari and have gotten the same following problem.

I can hit http://plasmatherm.vanillaforums.com just fine

The problem arised when I try to sign in. Then it gives me the message I wrote earlier.

I then cannot hit http://plasmatherm.vanillaforum.com until I clear the cookies.

Another one of my employees made an account and could access the forum just fine.

When they tried mine once more, the same issue arose.

I then thought that possibly it was a firewall issue on our end so I had one of our IT guys bypass our firewall completely and got the same error message.

So my conclusion is, that somehow my personal account has been compromised.

I am not sure how to fix this issue other than deleting my whole account and re-strating it.

However, if that is not the issue or if this issue arises again, I cannot keep re-activating my account.

Hi Cara, thanks for the additional info, that was enough for me to track down the problem.

You were editing your custom theme and pasted CSS into the "Edit HTML" tab instead of the "Edit CSS" tab. You then previewed the theme, causing a fatal error because your theme was overwritten for your account only while in Preview mode. We have safeties in place that should have prevented this; I'm not clear how it got thru.

I've restored your theme to the default, and taken your account out of Preview mode. You should now have normal access to your account.

If you need any assistance using the Customize Theme feature, ask away!

Thanks for your patience and persistence in tracking down that issue.
  • I AM IN!! haha thank you so much for your time and effort! Sorry it was something dumb i did.

    Thank You!
