Technical Lead (PHP & MySQL)

As a Technical Lead / Software Architect, you’ll be responsible for developing a deep and comprehensive understanding of our software and platform so that you can help team members achieve their goals while also being a productive individual contributor. We’ll look to you to translate our roadmap initiatives into specific technical acceptance criteria which can be sprinted and completed by the team. Your technical leadership will be critical to the team’s success, and we expect you to help your teammates improve their technical thought process.

This position reports to the Director of Development. You will have access to and regularly collaborate with the Chief Product Officer & Co-Founder. It is a primarily technical role and does not involve directly managing other developers.

Responsibilities:

DevOps Engineer (PHP)

Vanilla is looking for a DevOps Engineer (PHP) who will be responsible for installation, configuration and maintenance of our SaaS cloud systems. He or she will also support daily operations and help develop strategies to improve availability and utilization of Vanilla’s supporting applications, along with monitoring and alerting. In addition, this candidate will design, implement, and scale our infrastructure technologies, approach, and platform to support our development process. Qualified candidates will have prior experience with the most up to date software development, automation, and deployment practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop highly scalable Linux servers.
  • Deploy and automate Vanilla’s Openstack environment.
  • Deploy other management platforms supporting our SaaS product (support, billing, etc).
  • Develop deployment scripts and private cloud customization using latest Open Source Technology Frameworks.
  • Maintain Linux/Unix environment including account creation, application deployments, script creation, and backups.
  • Enhance and improve Vanilla’s autoscaling systems.
  • Maintain the network and security across multiple products.
  • Monitor and improve application performance monitoring systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues when necessary.
  • Proactively monitor servers, storage, security, applications and services.
  • Deploy hardware, patches/updates utilizing best practices.
  • Work closely with developers to support the packaging, deployment, monitoring, and system reliability scripting that turns software into a complete deployed product.
  • Work with DevOps counterparts to bring all systems into a unified platform and process.
  • Provide technical support for system users.
  • Duties will vary based on experience. (i.e. previous work as a DBA, Network Engineer, Information Security, etc.).
  • Minimal travel required
  • Be available for on-call and after hours support including weekends and holidays.

Experience / Skills

  • Highly proficient in PHP (particularly PHP7).
  • Effective writing skills for policies, procedures, external and internal communications.
  • 2+ years of experience in Cloud technologies and architecture of Cloud solutions.
  • 2+ years in system administration/technician role.
  • 2+ years working with Linux operating systems.
  • Extensive experience with MySQL and database architecture.
  • Experience working with network components and configurations including Firewall, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, and VPN systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with numerous departments, employees and external users.
  • Familiar with, and proponent of, modern source control (we use Git)
  • Experience with continuous software deployment/integration is a plus.

Education

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associates or bachelor degree in IT, Computer Science, or related/applicable field preferred.

Graphic and UI Designer

Vanilla is searching for a talented Graphic and UI Designer who wants to join a profitable and rapidly growing SaaS startup. As the sole full time designer at Vanilla, you would wear more than one hat and be part of both the product and marketing teams.

Ideally, you have solid experience wireframing and mocking up user interfaces, as well as the capacity to product logos, graphics and other graphical assets for both product and marketing initiatives. Vanilla Forums is looking for an experienced B2B Marketing Specialist to join our marketing team in Montreal to help drive awareness of Vanilla Forums and build pipeline for our growing sales team.

This role is part science and part art, and is ideal for for someone who takes an analytical approach to account-based and inbound marketing. It includes optimizing copy and campaigns for conversions, building highly optimized landing pages, developing email campaigns, and ensuring our website ranks for search results.

Your success will be measured by your ability to drive new revenue through lead generation initiatives. You will be responsible for tracking the effectiveness of your lead generation efforts, developing best practices and further enhance conversion and success metrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development, delivery and execution of customized digital marketing efforts for both internal SDR as well as customers that address sales, marketing and lead nurturing funnel goals.
  • Organize and prioritize cross*functional projects for social media, SEO, SEM, email, blogs and content creation.
